Beach resorts of Fiji are amongst the most popular in the world and are scattered throughout the islands, some on tiny coral atolls, others in remote spots tucked into the tropical rainforest. There is no concentration where properties sit next door to door! Most beach resorts of Fiji Islands sit alongside blue lagoons protected by coral reefs - which are good for snorkeling and scuba diving.
It's often said that the main island of archipelago - Viti Levu - has to few beaches. In fact, if you'll explore the coastline you'll find some truly wonderful beach resorts, from which Natadola and Cuvu are amongst the best in the country; on the northern coast of the island you'll find also several outstanding beaches. Beaches along the Coral Coast offer a splendid view, but most have poor swimming amenities, especially at low tide when the lagoon is only ankle deep.
Most beaches around Nadi Airport and Suva are disappointing, although north of Suva are a couple of lovely secluded beaches as well as unusual black sand beaches.
Mamanuca archipelago has about 20 islands in all, mostly small with grassy ridges and sweeping beaches. Situated off the coast of Nadi and accessible by boat or plane, there is the commercial heart of Fijian tourism and most islands have been taken over by a resort, so the white sandy beaches are cleaned by hotel's staff each morning.
The focus here is on beachside cocktail bars and lots of water activities, particularly sail boats, sea-kayaks, scuba diving, snorkeling, and parasailing. There are also a number of tiny coral islands, from which a few can be visited on a day cruise from Nadi.
The Yasawa chain is an archipelago of volcanic islands and has the best beaches from Fiji! There are over 20 islands in all (the closest can be reached by ferry in 2 hours from Nadi), with about 35 budget beach resorts and a couple of market areas. The beaches from Yasawas are main destinations on the itinerary of the luxury night cruises.
Vatulele island has some excellent white sandy beaches with secluded tropical surroundings. Kadavu and Beqa have quite rugged coastlines. This islands are better known as scuba-diving, fishing, and surfing destinations.
This islands have a few very attractive beaches backed by lush tropical rainforest, particularly on islands Matangi and Qamea and on several small luxury island resorts off Vanua Levu. The larger islands - Taveuni and Vanua Levu - have good beaches and there are several areas where diving resorts are located alongside an attractive tropical coastline.
Lomaiviti Islands
Ovalau, the main tourism center in Lomaiviti archipelago, does not have many good beaches. Still, off Ovalau are a few small islands with very attractive beaches and small resorts, from which notably are Toberua Island and Caqalai Island. Most of the other islands in the Lomaiviti archipelago have secluded beaches, but few offer accommodation.
